horrible day

It almost happened to me with my pleco tank. Some adult in the house inadvertently switched off the power strip to the tank. I caught in time and only lost 3 small L114 plecos. I have more than a $1000 worth of plecos in that tank. I had to add a lot of ammonia remover to neutralize any ammonia that maybe in the tank. The plecos were gasping for air on top. That is how bad it got. I had an air pump for that tank but it was on the same power strip. I don't know how long it was off.

Sorry for your lose.. as for the bacteria... if it was canister filters.. I wouldn't trust the tank. BB seems ot die off very fast in canisters that aren't working. due to lack of O2 they get choked out pretty quick. if the filters where off an hour I'de say your BB is likely OK... But over-night... I would start as close ot scratch as was feasable. a water test over the next few days doing a fishles cycle process will give you 100% answers.

Yes they were canister filters and no idea for certain but at least all night they wereoff. It is one of those things that is always a constant so you forget to check them sure will now. I believe the fronts are rather sensitive because the peacocks and convict were fine of course the bichir was ok because they breath air our big rhino came through fine as well. We are going to leave those fish in there to recycle the tank and we cleaned the one filter good and will do the other one today. Would there be much bacteria left in the tank water or would they have died off too.
