Horse Racing Deaths & The Media

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I have a friend who has raced horses. He told me he thinks the horses are dying because the track is not being prepared properly. (Something about drainage)If that is true, that's F'd up. It makes sense. These horses are breaking their legs, so they end up shot. I still wonder if with technology now, that has to happen?
It probably doesn't have to happen but then the owners probably do not want to foot the high bills for surgeries and rehab either.

Racehorses are an expensive animal that can potentially make their owners very rich. I doubt they would be risking their assets on a dodgy track.
Saying that, its shocking how many racehorses die or are euthanised every year.

I can only speculate but given that they now have track doctors involved before running and are restricting drugs more (timing before running the horse), I think they are just pushing some of these animals past the limit. Some of the recent deaths involved heart attacks.
That and I think that running horses is inherently somewhat risky.
