So I have a 10g that get used as a hospital tank when needed, and I haven't had anything in it for prolly a month or so. Now I'm going to be getting a PB and was gonna put him in there for a little bit til he grows a bit and then I can add him into my big tank (he be to small and likely get ate in the tank when he first comes home) even tho the tank hasn't had any fish in it I've still continued running it filter and such, but think my heater is finiky in it...

Can I just put him in there ? Or will he die since I haven't had anything it in for quite awhile ?? How do you guys keep ur hospital tanks or grow out tanks up and going when nothing is in it for awhile ?

So then likely there is no BB left in my little 10g then if it has sat for roughly a month at least then eh.... And adding him will result in his death right ?

Be better to add him into my 75g with my other smallish fish or use a egg crate for divider in my big main tank where he gonna be once large enough to stay with my oscar's

Just keep your hospital tank open for anything last night I had no clue but my royal knife got its fins chewwed up he is in there now its always a safety net. I would suggest getting another 10g for growout. I have 1 hospital 1 10g rtc or bichir growout tank one 15g not in use . Also have a 75 gallon monster tank and a 3,000 gallon pond for those monsters. Perfect setup!;)

Well I mean I only plan on keeping the PB in it till he grows additional 2-3" bigger then when I get him 2" or so, then he be large enough to go in my main tank, but since my hospital tank has been empty all this time will he die adding him in there or what ??

Do a water test... if you have nitrates on the tank likely it is still cycled. personally i would not put you baby in a tank with an oscar, even if separated.. my bichir have always been good at getting where they want and at 2" thats a snack for most Oscars. I would put him in the 10 and monitor the water, its the only way to be 100% anyway if its still cycled. ide also do a big water change on it and replace the heater if you think its going bad. bad equipment kill fish alot easier then questionable water quality. If hes the only fish in the 10 at 2" your not going to get any seriouse ammonia spikes ect if your monitoring it. Thats a small bioload at least until he starts growing. I did this with my ornate a few years ago, and more recently my endlis. worked just fine as a grow out. they stayed in the 10 until about 6"

Ya I wasn't sure if seperating them would be good or not guess its a hit n miss with it.... All tho I do have a 75g with other small fish african cichlids and etc in it, biggest are my JD 6" or so, and all others range from 3-4.5 maybe 5 inchs... Would likely only keep him there till 4 inchs or so as he can likely eat some o the smaller fish in my 75g

Which is also why I thought bout egg crate in my big tank with it against a cave/rock which the oscar cannot move on there own at all and zip tied to the top of my supports then I don't have to worry bout him eating my other small fish and once he big enough pull the egg crate out

I honestly do not think he will die my hospital tank was empty for a long time and I just not put the clown in it. Do a small water change.

I'm just worried he might die, as they are hard to find around where I live so I'm very nervous he might.... I'd be pretty mad if he did lol ....

I might end up getting 2 if the guy at the store says they do better with pairs then solol
