Hot Magnum

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
They work pretty good with the micron cartridge.
Even the 350 can be a "move around, hob, polisher".
Just understand the flow rates of these filters.
HOT 250 is 250gph, max, with a clean cartridge.
Mag 350 is 350gph, again, with a clean cartridge.
The smaller the tank, the sooner you would see any improvement.
If your tanks have a bunch of free floating debris, they will clog up pretty fast.
The cartridge is 8 micron rated and that is really a small hole.
For the money, if buying new, you could make a unit out of a external capable pump, some pipe/tubing, and a "whole house" water filter and save a couple bucks.
You won`t save a bunch, but you will get a better amount of flow, depending on the pump you use.
These filter cartridges clean in the 20 micron range for the rust/sediment and 10 micron for the taste/odor.
The cartridges are almost twice the size of the Mag, so they should last twice as long between cleanings.

Thats a pretty good idea.....thanks I'll be using that one.

Because here in canada house water filters are about 50-60 bucks

Really????
Think you might be looking in the wrong places.
Even the local China outlet store(walmart) has filters for $20, US.
As far as GPH, it`s all on you.
My opinion only, but anything under 500 gph is a bit of a waste of time.
You can find used, or on sale, store bought units for the same price as a DIY.
Catalina, Via Aqua, and a slew of other pumps like them are available.
They don`t cost as much as, say a Mag or Quiet One(which turned out to be the loudest pump I`ve ever owned).
GPH per Dollar is like anything else.
GPH costs $$$, how much do you want to flow.
This thing isn`t rocket science, but a few skills are needed.
Imagination is a pretty big key in a decision to build one.
I`ve used this basic design as a powered gravel vac and had great results.
I used the return flow like a leaf blower.
It blasted out any hidden gunk from my rocks and decor, to be sucked up by the system intake.
I used hose instead of PVC on that configuration.
Sorry, getting a bit long winded.
What I see as the major plus on these cartridge systems is the 100% effectiveness of the thing.
There is no bypass.
Every drop of water has to go through the cartridges filter membrane.
Given the construction of magnetic drive pumps, you can`t hurt them as the filter material clogs and the flow is diminished.
Bottom line is, if you have multiple tanks you could do allot worse then giving one of these a try.
Good Luck.

Never thought to look at walmart.
Thanks KaiserSousay for the info

Magnums are polishing filters...........They are used in stores at the end of the day to get rid of the floating debris in the water.............I rather put my my money on a pair of Aqua Clear 101 filters........

AC 110 are good filters, no question.
Unless you changed yours, there is no way the AC can filter at the same level as the Mag series.
Come to think of it, even modded they will not filter to the single digit micron range without overflow or bypass.
For everyday filtration, the AC do an excellent job.
Water polishing, not very good.
