Hot water from tap

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
in my apartment building they had some problems with the boilers a few over a course of a month the water from the tanks after the repairs was causing problems for my tanks wiped out around ten of my fancy plecos never did find the exact metal or chemical that was doing it but it forced me to make a carbon pre filler for my python theres a thread in the diy forum
it works great had some line repairs a couple weeks ago and no problems with my fill did one the same day just to see if it worked.

I dont use hot water to fill the tank up, I use cold water. If you have a decent heater there should be no problem. I even do this when filling up my tank with Discus; No deaths

i use water from my water heater to raise the temp of the water as i do water changes and have had no problems yet. I lost a couple fish from shock when i used cold water directly from the tap. i can not store water for changes so it was the only choice i had other than smaller changes more often and that wasn't going to work either. good luck

The only time I tried using warm water during a water change the results were catostrophic. 3 dead Tin Foil Barbs and a dead 9" Bala Shark. Went back to cold water, and haven't had any problems.

Interesting topic. I have to use hot water from tap as my tap is too cold to use .
I dont have water barrels to store my water. I wish i did but space constraints wont allow me.

I do my water changes slowly and have my python as high as i possibly can to prevent gas build up and i also use water conditioners. I keep pretty sensitive fish
and i do water changes every 3 days and no deaths caused by this method so far.

i to use hot water.
i run a hose direct from a mixer tap and get the correct temp and its fne.
i did have a new combi boiler fitted a few years ago.

In older systems you not only run the chance of metals sediments adding to the tank, but those old copper/brass pipes were generally soldered with lead. Harmful?

You better believe it. My homie bought a house built in the 20's, and the first water change he did from the tap wiped out his 24" Silver Aro and his breeding pair of GTs.

As an avid user of the python these days, I commonly run a blend of hot/cold from the tap for refilling. Unless its the heat of summer, 50% changes using cold only would lower my temps too much.
When vaacuming the gravel, I also have the tap adjusted to both H & C for the best suction. I take some comfort in knowing I've likely emptied the hot water heater at least once before I begin the refilling process. This way at least the hot water has been freshly heated & not standing in the heater for prolonged periods.
Been trouble free for the last couple years this way.

Even minimal temperature changes in the tank water can and will likely result in ich.....I blend my water...The best hot water system for fish would be that Rinai system it doesn't sit in a tank, it's instant....They use these in Europa.....
