Hour of horrors!

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
It was a complete wash out here, it absolutely leathered it down. My young lad and his pal were desperate to get out so we just let them go! Half hour later they were back looking like drowned rats, lol.

Thing is, in the short time they were out they still managed to secure a nice stash of chocolates and stuff, which was most welcome bearing in mind I have a shocking sweet tooth, hmmmm.

Sorry to hear about the terrible weather, glad he got a little something!

we went through about 500 pieces of candy, we used the Irish honour system and got swiped at least twice ???

Where I live is too isolated for trick or treaters. So in the 6+ decades since my parents built the house in 1961 and today, not one single tricker treater has ever come to this house. Since, I have no children, this doesn't bother me.

When I was a boy my parents would send us out to collect what we could as did all the other parents in the neighborhood. When we could not walk any more, we came home. There was never an issue re safety or tampering with the treats.

We had our typical rural Manitoba Hallowe-en. As usual, I carved several jack-o-lanterns and lit them up with glo-sticks. As usual, the one placed down at the bottom of the driveway, near the road, was stolen. As usual, the scarecrow I put up did nothing to stop the vandals. As usual, my wife bought a couple bags of little chocolate bars. As usual, the roads were icy and slick after a day of freezing rain and not a single car went down our isolated road all evening. As usual, our closest neighbours, a kilometer in either direction, reported the same lack of activity. And as usual, when I go out later this week to use the jack-o-lanterns for their intended end use...as rifle targets...I will be shooting poorly because I will have the sugar jitters from eating too dang much chocolate. :)

Niki, what is the "Irish honour system"? Serve yourself, no contact required? That seems to be the way my carved pumpkins are being treated, lol. Next year I'm putting up a sign next to the roadside jack, stating "If you can read this, you're in range". :)

Irish honour system is help yourself while remembering other people are coming behind you so only take your share so everyone gets something! A couple of kids forgot their manners but we still managed to have enough candy for all! So this makes me happy as I hope all the kids had fun last night.

that’s terrible that your Jack’s got disrespected! None of my displays were touched so I’m thankful for that
