House call to clean your tank .... not cheap-

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
For me, that would take almost all the fun out of fish keeping.

Maintaining is the best part.

Please please please!!!!!!

Have your freind call me the next time he needs the tank cleaned, I'll cut him a deal, lets say the MFK discount for $600.00.

Seriously, that's outrageous. THe primary income of my business is tank maintenance, that's way out of line. I have an account that has six aquariums in it, 4 of them are SW 125 gallons, a reef and a freshwater tank. Thier monthly invoice is not that high!!! Nuts!!! Set your freind straight, help them to learn to do it them selves and not get ripped off!!!!

I just found out that a friend had his 155 gal cleaned by "Aquarium Adventure"
for over $700, one time visit. Either his tank was super dirty or this is a
lucrutive business.

I'll clean his tank for alot less than they did.Aquarium Adventure is here on Long Island, their prices are highway robbery when you go to the store in person. :D

you know. It's pretty sad to hear that from somebody who's only 17 years old. :(

You know I used to agree with you but after dealing with customers for 20 years I have learned that you better make some money because if they have a problem.... even when you tell them that it going to fail... they still want to drag you into court and even when you winyou still lose a days profit and the judge will almost never give you the counter suite for your time so I understand why people say that business is business.

( only lost once and I still was right I lost because I stood by my qoute and lost money on the job and a year and a half later -6 months after the warranty was over- he had a problem and he got a statement from another shop that said I couldn't have done the work for that price and you couldn't and make money )

I had a guy leave a truck at my shop for a year while he got the money and after 11 months some one broke out a window and I had to pay for it even though when he droped the truck off I told him I will not be responsible for the truck if you leave it here that long.

But it's cheaper to pay the $300.00 for the window then to lose a days profit

So if the people you deal with aren't as helpfull as they could be ... most of us have been abused by our own customers that we have gone out of our way to help.

Wow, I'm going to start cleaning tanks. For $700 I could clean 2 tanks a day and retire by the time im 50 to my own private island.

I've been in the industry for about a year, and I've seen it all. One thing I learned really quick was that people aren't naturally nice and compassionate people. I guess meeting all of these people makes the ones who truly are interested and really do care, all that much better. But yes, it's a common practice to overcharge. Hell, I know a store in the area whose maintence department is kept alive from ONE ACCOUNT!

yeah, I mean. I definetely understand why you would overcharge somebody, because business is business I guess. But I think it's a bit unethical to do so. That's just me. Maybe that's why I shouldn't own a business of my own. :)

I'm no math whiz, so someone help me with this....

5 29 gallon tanks
6 55 gallon tanks
6 125 gallon tanks
1 230 gallon tank
1 325 gallon tank

If it's $700 for a 155 gallon tank, how much money am I sitting on here?

.............damn me for being a zookeeper and not a maintenance person! ........ah well.

1225 gallons x 4.50 a gallon = $5512.50

you could make a pretty good living.

A zookeeper you say, what sort of material do you use in your tanks to make those fake rocks? do you contract it out to a company? I want to have a set up like at the zoo one day...
