  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Not sure if already mention. But why not setup a few tanks in the garage insteading of using the totes in the garage?

We had a problem with our large pond this Summer and had to house LARGE fish in our garage. We used Rubbermaid Stock tanks.....one was 150 gallons the other was 300. They cost $150 and $250. For the heaters get 4" PVC pipe and 2 caps..... drill a ton of holes in it. We did 3/4 inch holes 1/2 inch apart. put the heater in there and you will be good to go. We used FX6's and power heads to keep good flow. We got the bins from Tractor Supply....there's a link below. Good Luck

Farm supply stores have them in 300 gallon size all the way to 50g. Durable but look on craigslist for used stock tubs. This blows hope you are able to find something. Have seen people use pond liners to kids pool or own bathtubs. I liked my 150g stock tub it was not rubbermaid it was another brand its footprint was better rubbermaid was more taller and narrower.

Good luck

Is there a way to sell all your fish? Is not worth trying to temporarily store your fish in totes. I tried that once in my last moving, and ended up losing all of them. I would have done better if I traded them to fish stores or sell them cheaply before my move. Totes are not fish tanks, over crowding, lacking proper filtration and cycled setting will lead to rapid environmental deterioration . Even though I ran sponge filters in an attempt to keep them alive before I could set up new tanks to house them, one by one died off from ammonium poisoning and bacterial infection in less than a week.

maybe try using IBC totes... 275 gallons.. holds water perfectly and super cheap. Under 200 bucks in most larger cities. All you need would be a FX5-6 to run one plus a heater. I've used them from QT tanks to diy filtration as well as keeping fish.

Thanks for the responses everyone. I think we are going to just move the tanks into the garage. The construction company will supply a pod so I can move all the stuff already in the garage into that to make room. My 55 I will set up in my kitchen but the bigger tanks (150, 135 and 75) will go in the garage. I'll try wrapping them in blankets to help keep the heat in. I'm limited on outlets out there but probably will just not plug in the lights, just the filters and heaters.

Thought I'd update this thread with current situation. Finally got the green light for reconstruction to get moving. Drywall repairs are pretty much done so now time for bathroom cabinets, paint and flooring. The 55, 20 and 75 we've already moved into the kitchen (55 just moved today). Everyone did fine so far. Next week is pack out for the whole house and we will be moved into a hotel for the next month or so. The big tanks (150 and 135) we will move next Friday. They will go into the master bedroom while the tile flooring goes into the rest of the house. Then moved back into living room so carpet can go into the bedroom.
Oh, and when I broke down the 55 today I found my 2 missing archers. ? I knew they must have jumped out but could not find them for the life of me. Looked all around the tank and under the bed. They were under the stand. Been there for over a year lol. Anyway, my 1 remaining archer made the move fine.
Not looking forward to breaking down the big tanks. The 150 only has 6 fish in it but they are big. I need to buy a bigger net for my black belt and the balas. The 135 is my community and has a ton of fish in it.
So here's the temporary home for the 55 and 75. 55 is still a bit cloudy cuz just got done moving that one. 20200307_154822.jpg20200307_135601.jpg
