I was at Mendards and I was seeing what they had for pumps as my new tank and stand will be 6 feet tall and I dont want to stand on a ladder with buckets to add water to for WCs. They had a 1/4 HP 1500gph pump and I think its overhead pumping distance would be more than enough. It was only $40 and its continous duty.

Would this be safe for use in an aquarium? A similar pump in the aquarium world would be well over $200 I believe.

What do you guys think?

They work, but sumps are NOT made to be run continuously. It will eventually burn out. I know a few who run them in fountains and they have to get new ones every year.

Well this is called a "utility pump" and it says continuous duty...but you guy dont think it will last?

I've been looking at standard pumps to get aged treated water back in.

Has anyone tried using one for a sump return? This is what I want to do now. Unless someone has a reason not to.

Whats the price and GPH. For a sump pump you cant go wrong with MagDrive...but if the price is right and it has a mfgr warranty try it, just keep the receipt.

Iv personally never seen one last that ran 24/7. Mag drives or quiet ones work if you head height isnt huge. I got my quiet one 6000 for 97$ shipped 1500gph

They have a 2500 GPH unit for $57 with a one year warranty...

The over head will be 6 feet which is kind of high. I think I will just try these to see how they work since they are half the price and more GPH
