Thanks. Anyone know how to DIY a hangon overflow that can handle this much flow?
 
I agree that these kinds of pumps are not meant to run 24/7. It's a lot cheaper then a real aquarium pump because it's made a lot cheaper. It would be a great tool for water changes but not for filtration. The way you're using it I predict pump motor failure in 6 months or less. So I'd plan on keeping a close eye on it.

It may not last but my hope comes from the fact that the previous owners of out cabin used a similar pump to keep their boat house from freezing. The pump was run continuously all winter for many years and it still works great today.
