what happened?

bala sharks started picking on it and I noticed too late. I thought I was keeping a good eye on it, but it seems like the worst of it happened when I was away for a day. I didn't notice anything before then, but I suppose something could have made it weak and then they picked on it. They were doing so well together. I have some pix in the thread I made earlier about it. It started losing its skin and then it got ick and just faded away.

wow that sucks bro...sorry to hear.

That sucks about the armatus but they do get easily stressed and are very suceptible to ick it seems when they are stressed out. Good luck with the gatf.

I like fish that move and that stand still for pics. GATF just stood ready for pics all day. My VATF is just like an Armatus... in a blink of an eye he rushes to the other side of the tank and usually goes crazy towards the top of my tank in the direction of the moon, spalshing the top of the acrylic sending waves all over... its suprer cool cause you can hear the splash as his tail pushes through the top of the water.

GATFs have real nice teeth that you cant beat at all

I would try a GATF again if I had a big tank then I would go on Chompers route and get a big shoal. GATF might be more active with more than 5atfs as a school.

Look at DBJunkies Armatus with the Dorados... they swimm like Michael Phelps. I guess for me I just need a bigger tank then ill be back with the GATFs.

Otherwise, Vittatus is the way to go as a single ATF species. I say almost replica of Armatus personality (im sure those who owned 9"+ VATF can say so too)... come to the tank and give you that eye, beg for food and are power swimmers

the VATF is supposed to be like 8-10", iirc.

my other option is the rhaph i posted a picture of (don't really care for the elongated look of them, though) or a brycon dentex, but it's by itself, so it's probably a typical aggressive one

where is a good place to look at brycon species? fishbase is really slow and I can't really find anywhere else.
