housing costs in your area?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
2600sq ft, 4/3/2, w/2 car garage on .41 acres = $525,000. However last year these were going for $550-600k....The housing market really took a dump in my area....

Ok, my idea of a starter home is a little different than some others on here, but maybe it's because I'm 22, and this will be my (soon to be) wife's and my first home. We are in Michigan, and the housing market is very bad. We've been bidding on a house for over a month (which has been a huge test of patience) but we just got word the other day that bank accepted our offer! As long as the inspection goes well, the house we will be buying is about 1000 sq ft (big enough for us :)) has 2 baths, brick, etc. and we'll be getting it for under 60K.

We bought our first home about 2.5 years ago for $63k. 3bed, 1 bath, 1 car attached, 1000sf on about a half acre. Took out one br to make liv room larger (which decreased value about 3k), put in about another $8-9k, now worth $85k. It's a house from the 70's. Newer starters here start at $100k.

and yet i get the stupid box room!! lol

rent for just a one bedroom in my town is 1300 a month, includes heat and water. So i would say to buy a home in my area you would need a million dollars.
