See, if I just send you the box and heat packs then it's not really teaching then is it? ;)

"Give a man a fish and he eats for a day. Teach a man to fish and he eats for a lifetime." Or, "Give a man a fish box and he ships for a day. Teach a man to make his own fish box, and he ships for a lifetime."

Where do I get a styrofoam box that fits perfectly into a cardboard box....and heat packs?????????hmmmmmm:confused:

I guess I could ask my lfs for their extras. Or dig thru their dumpster....Not! :grinno:

I personally buy the 1" thick 8' X 4' pink foam insulation boards and cut to fit, fits any cardboard box you want. One piece of 8 X 4 foam was $16 and will make enough for 5 boxes (14 X 14 X 14). Each box was $4 as well. Heat packs are $1.25 each from my LFS, bags I get for free from them. Smaller fish mean smaller boxes and less foam and heat packs (mine were for single fish around 10" in size).

Warmer months are coming and you can get away with less or no heat packs (I used two shipping to Minnesota overnight in January, was 25 below) and thinner (cheaper) insulation.

If I had easy access to oxygen I'd use it, but with enough air in the bags I've not had issues just using atmospheric.

Seriously though, get some festae fry up to 1" or so and I'll mail you a box with heat pack and bags. You can USPS two day it back to me.

Once I get a larger breeding program started (someday) I'll probably switch up my methods but right now it works pretty well for me (I ship fish maybe 6 times a year).

Awesome! Let us know how things turn out!

I woke up to the eggs mostly eaten. There's only a few white ones remaining. Every time the female goes over there to try and pick off the rest, the male chases her away and beats on her.

Well it was fun while it lasted. Maybe next time.....

no need to pay 4 dollers a box. just drive around you local plaza and the tops of the dumpsters are usually loaded with boxes. i just grab them.

Good luck with the eggs
