How’s the weather?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
We have breezy weather almost continuously here; a truly still day is a rarity. This does indeed make heat easier to bear.

I cut an acre of grass this morning with my push electric mower. Temp was 30C/85F, wind about 10kph. I was warm but it wasn't unbearable. I will likely cut the other acre this afternoon; sunset is just after 9:30pm and by 7pm it will start to cool a bit. I don't expect to suffer horrendously.

My wife dreads days like today. She knows how brutally uncomfortable they are because the TV tells her. I don't listen to that and thus remain blissfully ignorant of how much I am apparently being tortured. :)

Looks like the highest the temp it’s going to reach this upcoming week is 66F. Cool weather, more rain on top of the 4” we just got, perfect growing conditions for the lawn, which locally is dominated by Kentucky Bluegrass.

That’s the good news…

Currently 42F with a high of 55F today.
Yikes...have you had any significant periods of warm/hot weather yet this year? Or are you guys still waiting for spring?

We've had an unusual spring, got off to a late start and have had a few cool-weather setbacks but they have been interspersed with some very warm periods as well. I didn't place most of my fish outdoors until almost the end of May. Very little greening-up of lawns or leaves popping on trees until a couple weeks ago as well, but of course when it happened you could practically watch the change occur before your eyes.

Today will be our third consecutive day of official heat warnings, calling for a high of 34C/93F. I'm glad I finished the grass cutting yesterday, especially since they're now forecasting 5 straight days of rain and highs in the low 20c range. I subdivided my water lilies, so have four separate plants now, all with a few floating leaves already. Yeah, I said "already"; for me, the first leaves and then later the first blooms are a Big Deal. :)

Sadly, we are having probably the worst year for ticks that we've ever experienced; it's always something...:(

I retired in April and since I retired we've had some really peculiar weather in blighty.

It's been really unseasonal weather for us, nothing like what summer should be like at all. Rainy, windy and below average temps, except for one really oddball freak week very recently.

And it was just my luck that the freakishly mad hot week coincided exactly with the week we went to Greece on holiday!

The UK heatwave started on Thursday 21st May (the day we flew out) and stopped abruptly on Thursday 28th May (the day we flew back).

The temps in the UK, for two or three days anyway, were higher than our holiday Greek temps!! And once we got back it's been absolutely crap weather since, with no real end in sight.

It's as if my retirement has jinxed the weather. Honestly you couldn't make this stuff up.

Started out with some very dry and warm weather in May, pretty much zero precipitation until last week. Then the flood gates opened, but with the rain some very cool weather for June, even here in AB. I might as well enjoy it, it won’t be long until we are back to bone dry, and the kind of heat you’ve been getting. Glad we don’t have to deal with ticks on our property. Don’t miss those critters.

Woohoo! Congrats! You'll have lots of time to enjoy now without the constant drudgery of a job; earning a living definitely interferes with living! :)

You'll need some more hobbies; may I suggest aquariums? 😎

As for the crappy weather, you've commented many times in the past how bad your weather generally is. Sounds like this is just par for the course. Maybe it just seems worse because you don't have your nose to the grindstone anymore and can stop to admire the world around you? :)
