Hello everyone...so I'm hatching baby brine shrimp for my little peacock bass..and I was reading that the shrimp hatch quicker at 80+ degrees...but how the heck do you accomplish that in a plastic 2 liter bottle??? Are you supposed to place a small heater in it???
Thanks in advance!!!
John

whats ur tank set at? i would try floating the bottle inside ur fish tank. this would give you the transfer of heat. but idk ive never raised brine shrimp

Several ways. Your peacock bass won't need them for that long. They grow quick so don't spend alot of time with trying to heat it. Keep it simple.

Putting the 2 litter on the cable box (tv), top of your fish light, putting a lamp near it. Just some easy ways. Brine shrimp lose their nutritional value after a couple of hours after hatching, so your really just warming them up to hatch faster.

now thats an idea!!! but how would i keep the bottle upright-would have to rig it somehow i guess...never thought about that thanks redtail!!!

my house thermo is set to 68, so I'm assuming that's thereabouts what the water temp is...anyone else? what are you guys doing to keep them warm?

oh ok thanks packer! what should i move onto after the shrimp-
daphnia?

Welcome. :D How big are your peacock bass? Daphina are almost microscopic. You could just crush some flakes or a pellet for your fry to eat. Brine Shrimp are really only for really really small fry.

I use a clip on lamp (reading light would do) with a plant bulb 4 - 6" from the bottle, usually ready to harvest in 15 hours then again after another 4 to 6 hours.

huh good stuff, thanks guys for the responses! got some great info!
packer-they range in size, between a quarter of an inch to a half inch at the moment.
This is the peacock basses second batch, the first didn't last long because I gave them frozen baby brine, and it turns out they want live food...so I'm not sure if they will take to flake/pellet so easily. I've been reading about daphnia, and I think the medium size will do it for them in a week...I may order some this weekend and let you guys know how it goes!! :)
