How sure are we that this is all diet and not water?

How sure are we that this is all diet and not water?

I'm not 100% sure. It could be a combination of both. I have used the same water source and filtration unit for the last several years. With the exception of changing filters the makeup water is the same for my drip. Chemistry in the tank should not have changed much. I just switched diets off tilapia and noticed a huge change, that's all I was trying to say before.

Like I said before, I'm not saying I'm right or wrong, could be purely coincidental. Just showing you my findings, and theory.

I do feed Tilapia. Not sure ts very cheap though, it comes from a restaraunt. Good siized fillets. Not sure pellets are going to be an option, I'd need to win the lottery... lol

I also have really hard water. Something wrecks my Marbles. Food should be a lot easier to fix then water.....lol. Although I've seen a decent improvement with softening the water.

I appreciate the shared thoughts and theories!!! :)

I will say this, my well water is very hard too, my makeup water goes through a softener before the RO/DI unit. However, I installed the softener before I got the rays.

lmfao wow this blew up much bigger than i thought it would. I tried again last night to feed tilapia, and no avail. checked my water, everything is fine. did a water change anyways. Rays are active. I fed them each a whole shrimp and they destroyed it. i think im just going to give up tilapia. i might just use it when i make my own pellets for my arowana and frontosas. I am sure everyone has different results with tilapia, I got mine from walmart. they may not like the preservative CO2 that is on the fish.. Either way, Spring is coming up and im about to bring out my cast net and fishing rods out to catch some food for my fish.

There's all kinds of articles out now reporting this. Here is a random one from Google.

The FDA is allowing imported fish from China where the farms are using more economical food sources for tilapia, shrimp and other farmed fish. the foods include pig, cow and poultry feces. They are also constantly dosed with antibiotics.

I haven't eaten tilapia in some time and refuse to do so. Too easy to catch my own fish to eat and feed to my fishes.

With the FDA recently removing the requirement of informing consumers of country of origin when selling meats, you have no clue where your meat comes from. And IF they choose to label country of origin there is no regulation requiring them to do so. Thus, they can put whatever country on that label they want, whether it's the truth or not, likely without consequence.

Your fish Probably don't sense that the tilapia is full of crap ( literally) they Probably aren't used to the texture or taste. Just being picky. Either way, no one in my family, fish included, are eating that stuff anymore.
I remember a report came out a couple of years ago in regards to farmed tilapia. It was reported that even US farm raised tilapia was about as heart unhealthy as beef, due to their corn based diet.

not freezer burnt. they are vaccuum sealed by some company with a blue circle lmfao.
You never know, that batch could possibly be "faulty" and wasn't sealed properly. Unless you tasted the fish for yourself, you would never know.
