Thanks, King-eL. 118, I didn't see that you had edited your post. You don't think a 75 gallon is adequate for those fish? Do you think it would be enough for just a pair of P. delhezi? I already have the tank. If it's not big enough for two P. delhezi I'll just stock it with some other kind of fish.

Also, does anyone know if P. delhezi can hybridize with P. teugelsi? I don't want to breed them together, I want to make sure it won't happen accidentally if they are in the same tank.

Breeding the same species of bichirs is hard already let alone two different species.

a 75g is good and you can always add other upper jaw species as well. Just make sure your filter can hold the bio-load.

Thanks again! Another question: how large does a bichir need to be before you can sex it?

Some around 5-6" and mostly the uper jaw species. Most lower jaw can be tell apart around 9" or bigger.

Thanks again!

I hope to get my tank planted and cycled over the next month, then I will order some young P. delhezi from Rehoboth. I think I'll order four, just so I have a good chance of at least one of each sex. I want to at least attempt to breed them. I'll forgo P. teugelsi for now, as they're a bit too expensive for me. I'll update as I can.

Tank should be plenty big. Delhezi are more on the active side. My 90 gallon is coming up on its stocking limit ill post pics soon once my next endli is out of Q tank :)

Whatever you do don't add clown loaches with them....very bad combination. I once made this mistake going by the "if it's bigger than it's head, it won't eat it", and ended up with 2 of the 4 cl's eaten, and another in the mouth of my endli. Just like king el said, avoid skittish fish :irked:.
