Lots of great advice here. If you intend to breed, only grow out a portion of the batch and let Mother Nature take care of the rest. Let the pair have a break every 2-3 spawns (divider) for a few weeks so the female will have the chance to regain some body weight and heal if necessary. Use multiple outlets for offloading fry, including Aquabid, Craigslist, forums, LFSs and fish clubs. Grow fry out as large as you can before offloading them. Selling 2"+ could mean a large increase in cash/credit over 1" fry. Of course it also gives the fry a chance to show more color, which makes them move faster in stores and thus move out of your house faster. Keeping tabs on how much each of your LFSs can handle and how fast they get rid of them is also great advice. And store credit is great if you can get it for dry goods as well. You wouldn't have to pay another dime for maintenance supplies or food ever again, plus of course it leaves the option open for more livestock if your LFS ever gets anything interesting in stock that you just have to have.
I have three stores I "distribute" to. The closest is 45 minutes away with the furthest being an hour away. Two accept fry for credit that is good for anything I can touch in the store. The third accepts fry for credit towards livestock only. I have $120+ of credit with them that I rarely consider using because they only carry common hobby fish and their ability to get fish in seems very limited (plus they won't hold fish for customers). So I will probably just walk in one day and pay for the fish of some complete stranger(s) out of the blue as a weird act of random kindness. LOL
Siphoned out 3/4 of the fry in my tank.Parents were not happy about it at all. They were constantly biting on the hose. The parents seem ok now. They still have a nice amount of fry to take care of.
We'll a few days later and the fry I left with the parents are all gone.Glad I managed to save a good amount of fry.Now male is chasing female around.I have a lot of floating plastic plants so she can hide from him.Its amazing how they act. When they lay eggs and they hatch it seems to be the female who's in charge.Otherwise it's the male who's in charge.
