Still have yet to see any big Marbles.

Never seen one bigger then 20". Marbles. NOT Motoros that could pass as Marbles.

I have seen Aquaman 45's breeding female and whilst she may not exceed 20" people need to appreciate just how big an animal that is, 20" doesnt sound that much but with several KGS of meat on them it is a pretty intimidating thing in a fish tank.

When I saw the Motoro in the pic I posted I was thinking...."I hope mine dont get anywhere near that big"

This was a huge factor for me when it came down to which species is right for me. I am very glad to say I am VERY happy with the species I chose.

Believe me I understand the needs of rays in the 15-20" neighborhood as I have/had have several and have no desire what so ever to own any species that get larger. I take pride in knowing deep down that I WILL have NO problem providing a good home for my rays for thier entire life. I will be able to adequately house AND feed them well into thier twenties. Just won't be able to keep them ALL.....

Makes me wonder how many ray keepers have to lie to themselves if trying to say the same thing.

Everyone says that Motoros are such great "starter rays" well I hope everyone sees the pic of that 4'er and reconsiders thier suggestions. I'd LOVE to know how much food it takes to make that thing look plump..... I bet she easily eats over a pound of food a day herself. That's over $30 a week where I live.

These are not my rays. I met the owner about 2 years ago. He had them for a few years at that point. The orbignyi was about 20" and the motoro was about 18". Both are female.

One of the best posts I have seen on this forum!

They feed that girl 8 times a day whilst pregnant and I saw their freezer with bags and bags of prawns, sprats and other bulk foods!!!

I agree.. I would hope that when anyone gets a ray, what ever kind that may be, they understand that it is a long term life style.

I was wondering is there any proof that marble motoros stay significantly smaller then regulars. I just don't see the genetic difference between the two. Just wondering..

Come take a look at my 13 year old male.

Look at Aquaman's 10+ year old pair.

Marbles aren't new. Show me some pics of some big ones. IF they get regular Motoro size don't you think after 10 years they'd be kinda close to 2'?

There has been talk of them being so significant there is a possibility of them being a totally different species. You ask me they are closer to Pearls then regular Motoros.

Look at growthrate..... That should be proof enough right there. I have several that will likely not break the foot mark prior to them being 3 years old. How long does it take a normal well fed motoro pup to hit 1'? Maybe a year?

Then again maybe Marbles are making me crazy? :screwy: Maybe not. Hard to argue with what you see in your tanks. ;)

DB, i have a regular male motoro that is about 4 years old (well i would say atleast 3.5 yrs) and he is 11". He supposedly came out of Columbia. Maybe the "motoros" out of columbia stay smaller, hints why marbles are smaller. Just a thought.
