How big do Cichla ocellaris get?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
IMO width is better, but its also important to get a good balance.. for eg.. i have a 6x3' wide with 7 cichla in it.. majority already 12"-13" and i cant upgrade for another year or 2 so im gonna do my best with them in here for the time being.. ill be upgrading to a 12x3x3' though..

alright, just wondering here but in the longrun, if i want to get a group of like 6 or so would the wider tank still be better or would you longer one?

To give you a good example i believe R1's tank is a 6x4' wide and hes probably got every type of cichla in there..

so silverdragon your saying the 6" of width is better than the 2' extra room? sorry im just making sure im getting the good info

Yeh that would just be my opinion though..
I very much prefer wider tanks than longer ones, i find cichla love swimming all over the place and not just up and down the tank, and they prefer wider tanks.. plus wider tanks hold more water :D

so any other expertise(sp?) do you guys agree with silver dragon about the 6" wider is more important than the extra 2' in length?
