At 8", my guess is it's this species: http://www.**************.com/forum/ug.php/v/PufferPedia/Brackish/T_Sabahensis/

A pic would be good.

Yep, my ID was correct (as usual ;)). Did you read the profile? How big is the tank he's in? Is it cycled? They do much better in at least low-end BW.

He came from living in fresh water his entire life so i have him in fresh water now.I was going to observe him for a few days before i change anything. He seems happy and eats well.

I did read the profile but this fish is way over 6 inches and not in BW ever. The fish looks like he is very healthy.

fish is way over 6 inches
Hence the + after the 6" in the profile. How long is it's "whole life"? They can live 15+ years, if in the proper environment. He also has a black belly which are is a sign of stress & not being happy. Do you see him with a white belly too or is it always black?

What about my other Qs?

My thread was asking for a max size and if they can live in fresh there entire life.I took the picture of him right after he went into the tank so i am sure he was stressed. Not sure on his exact age but he must be up there in age do to his size.Maybe someone else here has a 8 inch one that knows there age?

as far as your other questions go i have 1200 gallons of cycled water over here and i don't get into debates on "tank size" but i do have huge tanks.

My guess is he's at his max size. They reach sexual maturity at ~2 years, He's probably >4-5 years but once he's full grown, there's really no way to tell.

Does he get a white belly now that he's adjusted to the tank? We have many, long-term pufferkeepers at my forum. You may keep your puffer however you wish but I am suggesting how to keep him alive the longest: http://www.**************.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=21998
