I was just wondering, as every source I can find has a different size listed. Some say they're one of the smallest aulonoacara at around 4 inches, others say they get up to 7 inches. every other source is just inbetween those two sizes, so which is it?

My Jake is around 5.5 or maybe 6 right now...He might get another inch. I am pretty sure Jakes and Lwandas are some the biggest Peacocks and can hold their own with bigger fish. They actually can be fairly aggressive with other peacocks. My eureka red is in with much larger haps...he is the only peacock...you can look in my vid a few threads down to see a mature one.

Ah alright, thanks
I was just wondering, looking for smaller species of aulonocara that would be able to (possibly) breed in a 40, guess I'll make another thread about that
I read the source i got the "eureka reds are one of the smallest peacocks" wrong, they were just comparing the smaller species like hueseri or baenschi to bigger species like jakes

I bred them years ago. My males were typically 7 to 7-3/4 inches, 7" would be on the small side. Jacobfreibergi in general are larger than average for peacocks. They're certainly not the smallest.

A nice hap ime (I bred them also years ago) with males that consistently reach 5.5 inches, occasionally a fraction more, are Z rock lithobates (Otopharynx Lithobates Zimbawe Rock). Nice fish ime, mine weren't especially nippy or aggressive.
