I scored this 11.5 incher today. I was under the impression they rarely got over 10"

BTW he was so big and had so much mass that when I added him to my tank he displaced so much water that it caused my over-flow to rush for a couple of seconds!!

Sweet! Nice big thinbars are hard to come by. My biggest is only 8 inches.
Just curious, how much did that guy set you back?

Im not going to disclose how much I paid cause God forbid I ever had to sell him people would say I was ripping them off cause of what I paid for him!

be careful. the reason why there are rarely seen thinbars over 10" is because they have "sudden death syndrome" and die out of nowhere. just a warning but as long as you feed it well, u should have no problems.

SDS is usually witnessed in small NTT, 1.5-3" when they are young and week. I dont think their is a huge problem with SDS and NTT's at 6"+. I mean their is bound to be some cases, as in any species of fish.

I THINK the main reasons we dont see many large NTT's are because first off they are the least desired Dat, so less people have them to begin with, and they are usually the first to go when someone runs out of tank space but finds a nice ST, or IT they would like to have.

2nd the "unexperienced hobbiest" who has interest in dats will go after thin bars because they are the cheapest. (thats how I started)

3rd - they max out at only around 12" and for any fish to hit their "max size" is not the norm.

I don't know about least desired Dat i thik they are my 2nd favourite.

Nice pickup!!

I never see these guys that big...I can only find little ones. I'm sure that SDS has a lot to do with never seeing big NTTs.
