How big does a short body pbass get

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
looks to be 12”-15” via the info in the other thread... posted by another member...

Any idea how big the tank is that would used? The size of the tank will dictate whether a certain fish can live in it long term or not.

Yeah that's a bit on the small side. Personally if they wanted a shorter bass look a like I would recommend more US native fish species such as warmouth, rock bass or green sunfish. They all have bass like qualities to em and stay on the smaller end, usually maxing out around 8-12in depending on if it's male or female. Males generally end up on the larger end of the scale while the females tend to rarely break double digits in size.

They all make great solo wet pets and can sometimes be kept with other fish as well. They can also tolerate warmer waters upto 78°F. Ime they tend to act allot like an Oscar will once they have adjusted to their new home.

Although I try to stay away from shortbody topics I know a 125g is still too small. A 14" bass will make a 300g look tiny. Id say 300g minimum for that. Especially since itll already have swimming issues. Just throwing it out there though, peacock bass are naturally gorgeous, theyre even one of the fish I feel melanistic and leucistic forms are a waste on because theyre already so amazing. Getting shortbodys just puts money in the hands of people who try to breed fish with genetic deformaties that plague the fish its entire life. I also guarantee youll never get even close to the money you put into the fish back, most peacock bass hobbyists I know tend to shy away from sb. There, thats my shpeel and I wont rant anymore. I will add though that if youre just looking for a bass that is unique and not what youd find at your lfs I can assist you in that and the bass will be much healthier and more energetic.

this was not my preferance, OP had another thread where they were wanting a bass in a 125g...

OP - look at other fish or a bigger tank...

you can get a 300g or similar off of craigslist for affordable price at times or a 300g rubbermaid stock tank?
