how big does this guy look?

Considering that your average floor tile is 12", there appear to be two tiles front to back which makes sense on a tank of that size if they're 12", and the fish seems to be just a bit under two tiles long, I'd guess that he's about 20-22 inches. Very impressive specimen.

I went with the probably a 6ft tank approach and it looks like 3 of him lined up end to end is longer than the tank .... not to mention it looks like he has to angle himself to turn properly, and I'm assuming the tank is a 6×2.5 so to have such difficulty turning he's gotta be right about 2 ft .... I cant believe how small he makes my VATF look to me ... I know camera's distort, but honestly he looks huge ... couldnt imagine how soaking wet my house would be if I had to net a fish like that! Having to net my goonches recently was bad enough, I can only imagine a similarly sized ATF being much much worse

Dude I feel ya! The amount of water these guys can move when the do NOT want to be taken out of the water is amazing! When I pulled Max out to do his fin surgery, he shot a nearly two foot tall rooster tail of water out of the top of the tank trying to dive down. I can't imagine the mess that monster would make!

Also, even though that fish is big to me it looks obese. There doesn't look like there's enough current so he just pigs out and swims in circles. I wouldn't exactly call that a "happy" fish.

I particularly agree with this. Far too many ATF are overfed and under exercised IMO.

That's like keeping an elephant in your garage. It just looks uncomfortable.

I was about to say something along those lines, im really surprised it lasted 18 years in that tank. Id think something would have startled it into bashing iteself irreperably into the side of the tank a long time ago haha. Thats the size tank i was going to house my ATF in for a few years... nowhere near 18 haha

Although I agree with him being way too big for that tank, that fish looks beautiful and comfortable .... sure he loses that explosiveness, but he looks calm and not stressed ... and honestly that to me is what a big VATF looks like ... mine is growing fast all of a sudden and is now I'd say equal, or longer than my Goliaths, but for every inch in length, he has started to gain an inch in circumference .... he's looking more and more like a football everyday, and my tank is a freaking white water rapid so I know he exercises! Lol ... anyway gotta hand it to the guy, dont see pics of ATF's that big often ... hopefully we all get there someday
