I'm really confused by this. I thought they got over a foot long, and some sources are saying that, but then some say they get smaller than ahlis. The results I get from each of the sites that come up (in regards to their size) are: 6.6 inches, 6.7 inches, 6.4 inches, 11 inches, 14 inches, 14 inches. That's a pretty big range.

Males can reach over a ft long, females 1/3 less, if high quality water conditions are provided.
Many don't grow to natural size in average tanks because water changes are not increased to keep nitrates low enough, with increased growth.
Whenever I see a post that says, this or that species doesn't really grow as big as "they" say, I believe it has more to do with a lack of water changes.
And that goofy adage thing about fish growing only to the size of the tank, it is not the tank size, but because small tanks get polluted faster, and the low quality water stunts growth.

It appears fishbase.org is wrong and Cichlidae has 30cm for males and 20cm for females.
