How big is a monster tank?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I think its all about footprint. Minimum size to call Monster in my book is 4 foot by 2 foot. That would hold a single, decent size (12 inches), not too active, monster in reasonable comfort. Maybe even two or three, depending on species. From there the sky is the limit. I think 10 foot by 4 foot would be the absolute minimum for larger monsters in the 3 foot plus size range, and even bigger if you have active fish species. Any way, thats IMHO.

Cheers,
Ken.

as long as a car fits in the tank its monster

I live in Miami, and a while back I was in a guy's house and he showed me his pool.
Imagine a 40' pool converted into a pond. Nice, right?
Well..... When I saw that what he had in there were about 2,000 African cichlids, none larger than 6", I just shook my head.
I don't consider him a Monster Fish Keeper, but he did have a large pond.
If it was my house, I would be desperately trying to get a Mekong Catfish.
But then, I am an addict, LOL

If I touch my nose to my tank it looks monster! :)

Same is true for a TV. The bigger it is, the further you have to put it so you can see it lol. Stand close enough to a 5" and who cares. If you have a mean fish with a monster attitude, that's the fun of it.

I started with a 5 gallon tank. When I built a 1,500 gallon tank I thought that was a Monster tank.A couple years later I started to dream of a tank that I had to build around it.I just completed the house with a 15,000 gallon in the middle of it.I am almost done with it.Need to do a few adjustment on it and I will start posting pic.

Okay good question you got there. The Tank doesn't make the Monster, The Fish makes the Tank.
But to really answer your question anything with 3 digits of more is considered a monster tank, Basic 100 or bigger means you got a Monster Tank.
