ive just upsized on my feeders, and i was a little worried when i saw my jar eating one of the larger ones. Im just wondering will a jar try to eat anything, no matter on the size? he seemed to struggle to get it down but afterwards i see no side effects.

Have had him a month and he is on pellets and gets a few live treats a few days a week

Got him at 4"

A month later - very close to 7"

Ive always gaged my feeders an food on what my aro could fit in its mouth while closed, can be tricky as there lower jaw can expand. Id say youll be fairly safe with with comets that arent bigger than 3/4" typical size at most LFS's.

shouldn't be much of a problem
when my jar was still a little blighter he used to eat feeders and he used to eat the TSNs feeders too and they were big but he would always down them without much trouble

well said their is no need for feeders

its hard to keep a jar with tank mates anyway if you just feed feeders the chances are it will try to eat everything

he said they were an occasional treat

you shouldn't use feeders, but if you do, those look fine

why should i use feeders?

as i said, it eats pellets when em to it, it eats livies also.

Been a solitary fish, i dont see the problem in feeding it livies and watching it hunt them down as it would in the wild.

I was just asking how big is too big

the risk of disease being transmitted from the feeder to the jar.

if the feeder is to big the will just spit it out and kill it.

i underestimated my jar with feeders once.
my jar was ~6" and i placed 5 1" feeders in the tank as i was about to leave for 2 weeks.
the jar finished all of them in 2 minutes. i was absolutely amazed...and a bit worried.
