How Big Of A Tank Do I Need?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Ill go for the 125 then if the beams are in the correct "order" for me, mom wants the tank in a certain way and we all know how everything must be there way or not at all LOL :P Ive been thinking of bracing the floor but for a 14 year old that doesnt even have a job at the moment thats sort of a problem. Yes it is above the basement, mom keeps saying she's gonna get someone in to check out the structure of the house to see how much weight i can put in my room and while he's there we may as well get him to check out the summer kitchen as well (thats where the tanks going) But ive also been thinking about just putting all my tanks in the basement but i have the bad habit of if i cant see them i tend to forget about them and thats the LAST thing i want to do to the poor fishies, although this site will keep me reminded of them. Ill try it with a 180 or larger when i upgrade again because thats the only place i think it will be able to go! LOL

Thanks guys,
Spence

Ok so i tried crawling under the deck to see if i could find the summer kitchen, ends in a concrete wall before the summer kitchen! go around to the other side of the house to see if i can get under that way, concrete wall! so every way to see the floor beams without ripping up flooring in the summer kitchen is blocked off so im gonna have to take a guess which worries me quite a bit, i also tried stomping on the floor between the kitchen (part of the real house) then the summer kitchen (turns out it must have been added) and the sumemr kitchen floor sounded hollow, the kitchen in from the real house sounded like i was stomping on the ground but like i said the summer kitchen that was added sounds hollow and im starting to like the sound of putting a tank out there less and less...Im gonna try and get her to change her mind so i can put it in the kitchen/old dining room. The floor in there the beams would run perfect for the angle the tank would be seen at and not to mention it would be right beside a structural wall i pretty sure thats safe for a 180! tell me if im wrong though i deffinatly dont wanna lose a tank there of all places.

Also sorry for the chain posting here but im past the chance to edit, is there anyway i could get a say a jag? Say i was to get rid of GT and Con or JD and Con is there anyway i could have say a Jag,Tex,Sal,GT or Jag,Tex,Sal,JD? The chances of me even finding a Jag around here are slim to none but i would be willing to order/drive to Toronto for a Jag. Ill keep hounding mom on the tank being in the old dining or even the new dining room where we get to eat :D Ill go for the 125 no doubt but ill try for a 180.

Wish Me Luck! :D

Spence, good luck with getting the new tank...hope you can talk her into it, you'll love having a 180. You should be able to keep either of those combos of fish + a few dither/targets like some Silver Dollars to disperse aggression.

Now im not sure if this would be over stocking or not, i really dont think it would be but your the experts not me. Would i be able to have a Jag,Tex,Sal,GT AND JD? My moms grown quite attached to the JD but i think a GT would be able to take care of itself better with the other guys, remember this would be for the 180 if i can get it.

I would do that combo minus the Green Terror. IME, they start fights with fish and can't back it up. They're not as tough as they think they are. The other 4 should be fine but it will depend on the temperament of the individual fish. You could have a super aggressive Texas for example and think the combo doesn't work but replace it with another Texas of the same size and it work fine.

Ill just place the GT into my 20 gallon when i upgrade and the fish the 20 gallon now will be moved into the 55 for a African biotope. The 20 gallon has a really wierd footprint which leads me to believe this is a custom tank someone made (I picked it up at a reptile meeting type thing) its measurement are 36"x12"x12" so i think he should be fine in there.
