How big of tank for....

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
haha, I am sure I could think of something...but I thought some of you that have been doing this longer would have some unique/not common setups I could give a shot.

I have been keeping fish for 8 yrs this last January. That is when I bought my first pair of red bellied piranha. I had 5 of them. 1 got eaten due to cannibalism. Then last winter the other 4 paired off in my 125, started breeding, and on the 3rd and most successful spawning, I woke up to 2 dead females..

The girl that my gf had watch the fry when we were gone, didn't follow the directions on feeding and I came back to 1 fish, which I still have. I don't think she even came to the apartment to have that many fish get eaten/die. You think about it, and there were fish from 2 spawns in there...hundreds.

And now I have 1 Adult Male red, the other male didn't make it in the move...don't know if he got stressed or what, the other one was acting fine,,he was freakin out.

here is a pic of my red, he doesn't care for the camera a whole lot so it is the best pic I could get. if you guys even care ;)

And here is his son or daughter....the lone survivor.

And please, no comments on the tank decor...I should probably take care of that soon. haha but he is in my bedroom. so he isn't a center piece yet.

lol
the other tank looks other RBP tank looks nice though

Get at least a 210, a 240 would be ideal.

where would be the best place to get a couple more adult reds?

try aquascapeonline.com they should carry them

A couple wouldnt be a good idea, if there are too few they should fight. Save up a little and get 4 more. You will probly want to uprade the tank within the next 6 months as well.

hard to say what would work. i have a jag/female festa/ veja syn/carpintis/butti/motoro ray/ornate bichir/bowfin in my 180 and most are 1/2 to 3/4 full grown and get along great. i would say get a butti. there not as mean as alot of people think they are and look nice. also personable

210+.... Deff. do research on the cats. It's corny but... Bigger is always better, if you can get a 300 your fish will thank you.

I like to give my fish the extra room. I am thinking possibly the 300 wide.
Then put the reds in a 125, or a little bigger if I get quite a few.

And have a new 125 to have an african setup if I get a bigger tank for the RBP's

The site that I found on the cats said 13" max. So who knows if they will actually get that big or not.
