How can I acclimate brackish to FW?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
its very very possible just slow
so far converted mangrove jack/toad fish/catfish/bream/ few other things

secreat is mate do it very very very slowly or u will stress teh fish / cuase them alot of pain
but from my experiance if done right and not rushed but impatiants u can do it with out cuaseing much pain if any to the fish also u will have a 90% success rate instead of 30 70

u need to recreate a estuary like enviroment eg. the bucket of salt water where u court the fish or a bucket of salt water from a upper estuary river

ok now what u want to to is simulate as if it has rain very hard for a few days = lessen the salt concentration

so bacicly what im telling you to do is 20 ltr bucket of salt water 2 huge air pumps a brackish water fish one time a week remove 1 cup of salt water and replace it with fresh treated water dont remove the cup all at once u need to like drip it out over time of the week and same to replace it with the fresh

this can take up to 3 months if done correct and not rushed

ok next this is dont try to do it to any fish over 5inch if teh fish is any larger expect a fail/death rate of 75% to 85% the younger the fish the betetr and so much easyer for them to adapt

ok next thing
yes this will reduce the fish's life span is most case's except a select few fish
but my point of this post is that IT CAN BE DONE

just dont be a idiot and try fish that just wont work and be very patiant

Can you explain to me this "penis" thing you speak of?
Gonopodium. The males release the sperm thus enabling the females to breed. Actually, it only takes one mating for the mollies to release several batches of fry in a span of months.

sry didnt read the thread but i gotta say, you cant acclimate brackish back to freshwater.. its not not possiable ( well it may be but it will be stressfull on the fish )
I disagree. It is possible but very risky IMO. You don't expect a high survival rate once it is done unlike vice versa.
