A lot of this is going to depend on the size of the Oscar, my bad for assuming that it was a juvenile. A 3-4" Oscar will be fine in a 55 for several months, at which time a serious tank upgrade will be required. (100 gallons or better) If this is a juvenile, 6" or less, the bacteria that I posted would allow the fish to be added right away.
