How Can I bring my PH up

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I think the pH swings are probably what's bugging him if anything, more than the low pH itself. With continued water changes your pH should gradually stabilize, if he's doing better and the other fish are fine I think you're proably in the clear.

The crushed coral is the best PH stabilizer there is in my opinion. I put the coral in a mesh bag and stick it in the filters and my PH is always 7.2. Now 3 years ago before i did this every once in a while one of my tanks would go really acidic out of no where!! One time I lost a fish that I really cared about due to one of these PH drops. But since I have used the coral there has NEVER been a PH change. If you need to cycle faster, and you don't have any other sources for used filter media, just ask your LFS if they are about to change any of their filters and ask to take the old used filter. Just MAKE SURE its a healthy tank you are getting this filter from cause you don't wanna introduce disease.

I hope so, I am very fond of him. I removed him from the tank, really thought he was a goner, the other two fish seem to not be effected there eating and showing no signs of stress at any time. My tire track gills completely puffed out with his labored breathing and his color became grey he was lying on his side breathing heavy for hours. I kept righting him when he would go belly up, and now he seems to be doing much better, got his color back and everything, but he's still breathing heavy. The first night he went into the 160g he jumped out. I should have kept a more careful eye on the parameters, maybe because he is scaleless it irritated him more.

P.S doing water changes on this tank sucks major butt, I have to come up with a better technique, I might as well use a bathing suit to syphon... I need to get a bigger one of those all well, I thought I had the largest one too hopefully I'm wrong

never really had a problem with ph before I once had it dip into the 6 range but nothing like this, guess I didn't rinse the vinegar off quite well enough, or maybe a residue set into the hard water stains I could not get off. I going to do the crushed coral too, sorry to hear about your fish. I have an aged fluval 305 and internal 3 plus, and one emperor 400 thats aged on the tank the other emperor and the hydro V are starting from scratch with their bb colonies. I think I am going to do a sump again with this tank as well, just haven't gotten there yet.
