how can I completely remove hair algae from driftwood

i soaked my driftwood in a 1 part bleach to 99 part water solution and it turned all the algea white then i tried to scrub it off but no luck it is really rooted into the wood. What can i do now. it is african rootwood therefore it is drying out now without the worry of it not sinking again.

A light sand blasting would do it.

You could check with a local autobody repair shop. If you have an air compressor you can buy an attatchment.

Just putting the wood in some really salty wood should kill the algae, i think i remember this from high school biology. The salt concentration draws the water out of the cells and they die. Then just by putting the bit of wood in the sun after it would get rid of the algae.......
However sandblasting it would be alot quicker and most probably have a better effect.

I blast it with the garden hose and then leave it in the sun for about two weeks and the ants seem to strip it clean then I soak it in a rain barrel in the sun to get algae on it for the catfish to feast on they love it

If possible, I will want hair algae to grow on my driftwood. It create a very natural look in your aquarium but of coz, my Semaprochilodus taeniurus will keep them in check.

you dont want hair algae to grow, you want a moss togrow. mosses look good, algae doe not. if you want to get rid of it, buy a bottle of flourish excel and overdose with it. gone in three treatments
