Wtih theconditions ive seen fish kept in at stores Id be hesitant to buy established media from their filters. I worry about disease enough just buying their fish!

I get your point, these lfs are not great fish keepers. Any fish you recommend for the cycle?

The tank will be stocked with africans

Juveniles, you could easily put 4-6 in and it would not be that big a chore to keep ammonia in check on a 125g.
Don’t spend a bunch on them, just in case.
It’s all going to be about the water until you finally get nitrates.
Get some that will go with your final stocking wishes. If you keep on top of the water quality they will be a fine base to build the rest of your stock on.
If I was going to "rush" a cycle, that is what I would do.

I personally have had no problems cycling tanks faster with feeder fish. Now anyone reading this on Mfk will be pissed off because its not the right thing to do. Works for me. As well i usually add some bio juice to speed things along. Established media also works great as well

I use seachem stability whenever I start new tanks....It works great. That's what I am going to use in the future also. It lowers the risk of spikes for the first 4-6 weeks of new tansk.
