how can i get my oscar's colors brighter

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Like everyone else said, a healthy, varied diet. I use Hikari Cichlid Gold, freeze dried krill (he loves these), mealworms, and cut up market shrimp when the family gets some. After adding the krill I've seen more color come out. Mine isn't albino, but I figure this should be true for any Oscar.

Check my other threads "Condensed Photos" or "New Oscar" and you'll see some more pics too.

Grapes and lettuce? Thats awesome. The pigs of the water...maybe when mine is able to take a grape whole I'll try it. Do you cut up the grapes or give it to him whole?

To be classified as albino there would be no color. Those that have orange on them are considered "Leutistic" which means a reduced amount of pigmentation and not a complete loss of melanin that's inherent in true albinos. For this reason they are often labeled as albino instead of "Leutino".

The advice given will help the orange patches that you do see and won't help much with the main body.

spirulina brine shrimp!!

If u want te orange to pop I revomend feeding foods with caretenoids ie. Brine shrimp, crayfish, krill, goldfish etc

i cut the grapes in pieces they love them.I agree with the lutino statement(most people still say albino out of habit)a true albino would have no color at all.i feed the romaine lettuce whole just hang it in the tank and they rip pieces off,the veggies help clean them out and keep them from being constipated.
