How can I make my silver arowana less finikey or scared?

South American aros can turn around in about half their body length, so turning space isn't really a good indication of if they have enough space.

I'm guessing it is either a small tank and removal of tank mates that has got him on edge, or perhaps both, but since you still haven't told is anything about the set up it is just a guess...
