hey im thinking about using one filter for multiple tanks to try to save money on my bill. Can any one help me with how I can do this? please help me out guy and girls ,thanks.

Do you already have a filter you want to use? I would use a sump and plumb it to both tanks. Have an overflow from each tank draining to the sump, with a pump getting it back. Basically a typical sump with one extra drain and refill.

overflows are the only good way to do multi tank systems. just my opinion tho

The only thing about that is that if the pump fails or you get a disease all your tanks will be affected.

How many tanks are you talking about?

Disease, yes. If it is setup properly, there should be no issues with the pump failing (other than having to buy another).

im thinking about put (2)125's and (2) 40 breeders does anyone know where i can find out more about this like a how to website or something

sump system is only way....

You can even insure against a failing pump by running two pumps in parrallel.

Yup. If you run a sump, you have limitless options. Look at the chain stores (and some lfs), they run tons of tanks (some have over a hundred) on one or multiple sumps. Ask your local chain if you can check out their system. You'll be amazed. My wife is a Petsmart manager, so I get to see everything. Their setup is unreal. You can plumb a setup for those tanks by visiting Lowe's or anyplace like that. I don't have any links, but I'll look for some. It's really simple to be quite honest.

I have seen a giant pump running multiple sponge filters....Just a thought...Big gang valve, and a pump strong enough for 8 hydro 5's. 1 in each of the smaller tanks and 3 in the 125's...I think that would work too....
