How can I raise/breed ghost shrimp in mass quantities?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I had some ghost shrimhat lived for more then a year, always layer eggs. But as mentioned the hatchlings need brackish water making it difficult to breed

some one correct me if i'm wrong, but i think i've read some where that ghost shrimp breed in brackish water before traveling to freshwater?

Not to mention, if you are planning on feeding 100+ shrimp a week, its going to be hard to keep the population up.. you would need an extremely large breeding colony for that to work imo... in other words, probably something like your 180G devoted to breeding shrimp possibly...

Ghost shrimp do not need brackish water to breed but as mentioned by other they do go through a larval stage (i think for 3 days) and must feed within 6 hours of birth. they will only eat microbes found in infusia at this time. The adults will eat the babies. Best to separate the shrimps with fertilized eggs into a separate tank. However it seems like you would like a large tank where they are multiplying on there own. You would need to have a good amount of infusia for the little ones in the tank by keeping the adults well feed. I recall that red cherry shrimp are easier since they do not got through the larva stage. Good luck
