How can I tell if a bichir is really a lapradei?

Really light substrate like white sand makes the colors fade cuz they try to match their environment. Dark substrate makes the patterns come out more. To make them look their best, red sand brings out their colors and patterns.

I plan on getting sand I recently just set up the tank for my gar and small mouth bass just through some cheap stuff in lol wasn't expecting seeing a lap for sale when I seen it i was like oh!!!!! I it's really I lap I can't resist lol so now I gotta redo the tank set up my delhezi is on aqaurium dirt for live plants seems to be doin fine
