This would be a good reason for you to put in a heater. No, it doesn't have to be 80ºF, that's true. But you can set it to 72ºF so it comes on when the occasional 'forgetfulness' threatens the life of your fish. Then you aren't relying on it most of the time but it's there to save the day if someone leaves the front door open in the middle of winter.i forgot to turn the heat on in the house that night
