How come no aquascapes for aro's?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Im sorry but this is utter BS.
the whole NO AQUASCAPE FOR AROS is a total load of bull

This is my tank
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d-Km7uvaY3E

Its scaped, and it can have more too.

arowanas actually know where there is an obstacle and dont just blindly jump into spikes.

also, arowanas dont just juump for no reason
if your arowana jumps alot, then you have something wrong with your tnak.
its gettng spooke dman. cover the back and sides, that should fix it, make the inside brighter than out, that should help
my aro HARDLY ever jumps.
EVER!

i love the aquascaped and decorated tankf or aro, so long as the aro has enough swimming space on the top third of the tnak.
or it can go around the scape.
if not then they are being impeded and no tgood anyways.

arowanas are found in semi shallow rivers with rocks, wood, trees, roots - they dont live in deep lakes only.

you can scape the aro tank fine, just make sure tank is big enough.
im asia, the 'prescribed minimum tank size' for aro is much much different to the western world.
this is because people there have less space. so in time it has become the NORM.
but really, aros need 1000L i think as a minimum per fish.
yes, 1000L!

any less is not doing it justice.
to me, minimum should be 6ft x 80cm x 70cm.
or 5ft x 1m x 70cms.

Width is key.

alot of asian keepers will say things because of information passed on. there are truths to this, but many have lost the actual truth.

some would say, dont put tank mates for aros
the main reason for this was because
1) they eat small tank mates, may attack big ones
2) their tanks are usually smaller in average than wester countries - so, too much fish, too much bio load
3) dont put decorations. because tanks are small enough as it is! so decorates would take up too much space. SOLUTION: BIGGER TANK!

to be honest, the mentality of - this is the only size we can have in our house, is not good enough frankly. Would you buy a dolphin and put it in a family pool and say "sorry, this is the only pool we got" THEN DONT BUY A FRIGGING DOLPHIL PAL!

(phew, that felt good)
sorry this really grinds my gears.

shame, cos i have seen some arowanas in fully planted and scaped tanks... GORGEOUS!
its meant to be! grand aquascape for a grand fish!!!! perfect combination.

nice henward

It's possible. But a number of factors can contribute to the decision to have an undecorated tank. Cost would be one (Plants and the maintenance of said plants really can add to the costs). Another is that, even if you did have the money, some people would choose to get more fish for the tank.

Yeah... plants look awesome just wish I took more time to actually set up my tank my 220 I'm so doing plants and caves

I guess as most have pointed out, its more of a space issue than anything else... i mean i would guess if you had say a 1000G tank, you could build the most amazing aquascape and then house an aro in it no problem...

The only problem is would anyone be able to devote such a large tank just to house say 1 aro and a very nice view...

^wow....what are the smaller fish? I'm suprised they haven't become snacks for the aro.

The are Bosemani Rainbows, there are only a few left in the next week or so this will be a Jardini only tank. lol

Mine will suprisingly. In the next yearish I want to move the 220 to a 300 deep dimension for him.

I think the OP has just has limited exposure to arowana tanks. Plenty of them are aquascaped and not bare.

One of the members on here has or had a really cool black aro indoor pond that was fully aquascaped with a giant piece of driftwood and tons of grasses and floating water lilies. If I remember correctly the tank has a big black aro, some rays and maybe a pacu.

There was a beautiful planted tank with an XB on here a few years ago, and I mean beautiful, amano style balls to the wall planted. I'll see if I can dig it up. I know that people have done it, but it's rare, you would need a huge tank with ALOT of gravel and special conditioners C02 etc for the plants and that adds up quick. IMO I think an asian aro in a simple all black clean tank looks the best. Maybe with a few high quality rays at the bottom. It showcases the beauty of the fish alone. Sometimes less is more.
