Is there a reason no one is keeping C. Temensis anymore? I remember a few years back, everyone wanted them. Is it because they are more commonly available now?

I really like mine - although it seems like they have something against my Indo Dats. lol.

i like temensis. but i think the reason why ppl dont really keep them as much is because the get huge and some ppl cant properly house them. but that is my guess.

:iagree: I love tems too.. But most people don't keep them simply cause they won't be able to house them for life.. Which is a good sign since people are starting to think before purchasing these beautiful monsters..

Pinimas are the new Tems, LOL

sorry no disrespect but pinimas could never be a tem and tems could never be pinimas... they are two different cichla with two totally different characteristic and personality.

i don't keep tems, pinima or azuls because why raise a fish to kill a fish... large cichla tend to get passes around because no body can house unless you have a monster pond or a 700 gallon tank. they all wind up dead before they could even possibly live there life. i owned some temensis sp. venz a whilllllee back and loved them but as they grow up fassst to becoming monster they out grew my largest tank and i never if i would of upgraded they would of just grew out of that just as fast. i sadly passed them on and guess where they are now?!

if i possibly could i would have a few of the large cichla sp. in my tank but i don't think it will ever be possible.

I was just curious as to what other avid cichla hobbyist thought, as I finally had some time to sit down and catch-up w/ many of the threads in this forum and noticed that tems weren't mentioned much anymore.

Yeah.. you guys definately made some good points. i agree with what most of you guys said. They are one of the largest, if not the largest cichla to my understanding... Im glad to know that people are being responsible. I also agree, that it is likely one of those trends that seems to occur in our hobby... esp. when we all have the fortune of getting recent imports of rare cichla that were hardly seen before.

But either way, I think all cichla are great, regardless of whether it is a farm bred mono, or a wild unnamed sp. of cichla we have not seen yet. :)
