Dude, you are not going to win this, you CANNOT compare 2 different genre bands. It is simply impossible. I don't give a crap about if they went to a nice music school, that tells me they know music theory. I can guarantee that Berkly doesn't teach you how to play Metalcore. Yes, you can use it in your music. But honestly though, its an opinion you cannot prove to me that one band is better than the other. Just because their music incorporates fast double bass kicks and one doesn't, does not prove that one is better than the other. Maybe the music doesn't need it, maybe it sounds just as good without it. You cannot tell me that an unsigned local band is better than a triple cd signed artist. I don't care if the band says they want to stay local because its about the music not about the money. EVERY band in history has said that, and it comes down to one thing, money. I have worked with MANY local bands and have watched MANY local bands fail because of not having enough money to support the band. A band's style comes down to what they want to play, Slipknots music, to some may sound like garbage, untalented music. But to Shawn Crahan, the band's founder, this is the style he wanted to play. He wanted the band to sound like a car crash and thats what he likes. It might not be something that you care for but about a million or so other people really dig this sound. I have been a promotor for bands for 5+ years. I have worked with some of the greatest of street teams back before, when it was not about the free swag that you get, but to spread the word about the band.
