ok so i could get my dream bichir...the ornate?

You could get an ornate, but keep in mind that ornates grow larger than dels, so you would have to be careful not to add fish that are too small. Also, ornates tend to aggressive to other ornates, so if you got an ornate you could only get one whereas if you got dels you could have numerous ones. Both are great polys.

i would go with the delhezi because they dont grow as fast as the ornate and they arnt as agressive but both are really good polys to get. i have both

Get either,but watch for aggression from your cichlids AND the plec should not be mixed with bichirs 99% of the time as they can suck on the bichirs slime coat and eventually kill it.
Id probably get the ornate as it would stand more of a chance against any agression,also what size would the bichir be and what size are its tankmates?

Get whichever one you like the most. Just remember that the ornates colour fades over time and then tend to become reclusive. The senegal is very bland coloured, but VERY active.
I just got 2 delhezi, whcih has been my personal dream bichir for 10 years. You could also get a couple in there. My 130 has 2 ornates and 4 lapredei along with other fish.

Delhezi would make a great beginner poly, actually pretty much any poly is a good beginner poly. Their care is very simple.

Nope, Platinum types are not good starters. Imagine wake up to see your $1000+ platinum bichir floating belly up.

My ornate is reclusive as JamesF stated. He is always the last one to eat even though he is the largest in the tank
