How dangerous is an oscar really?

Once it's full grown, I wouldn't be surprised if an oscar couldn't break fingers. Same thing with all larger growing fish, there's a lot of power there!

If you want to avoid this, don't put your hands in the aquarium when cleaning. Use a python to draw the water down to a level where you can clean the gravel or sand without getting your hands wet. If you need to clean the sides of the tank, get a sponge with a handle. I never really get my hands wet at all when cleaning. If I did, I would never clean my Dovii tank.

I tried that, mine jump out of the water to get to my hands. :ROFL:
 
Frick (my albino tiger) went at my hand once. I poked him back and he hasn't come near my hands if they're in the water since. :D
 
They startle you more than anything if you didn't see them coming. They will be especially aggressive if you're in 'thier territory' of the tank. Also if you' re cleaning the tank when it's normally feeding time, all I can say is you're on your own!:grinno::grinno::grinno:
 
LMAOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!:ROFL: I told my middle son that the bite didnt really hurt but just shocks you. so i demonstrated for him no problem. i go get a sandwich and his older brother comes running laughing hysterically. " dad shazaam wont let his finger go. i got down there and he was actually pulling the oscar around the front in tow. if i didnt know any better id swear he was teasing my son cuz he was little. me he bites:ROFL:
 
My severum likes to mistake my hand with squid and I just regularly push his head out of the way with my finger, sometimes it works sometimes it doesn't.
