Hi,I have a creek in my backyard an it has minnows in it,but the thing is it is not deep enough. I was planning on digging it out and stocking it with gamefish. Please tell me how deep it needs to be and anything else about stocking a creek.:help2:

Idt u can do that because the fish will escape unless u use locally caught fish to stalk it. And I guess u wld start with a shovel and dig till u got it where u want it. And also u have to think if the flow of water is good engh so u dig and the water will actually fill up ur lil pond thingy

if i were you id go deep 5-6 ft or build a pond that would be awesome

I dug out the creek in my backyard after we moved in. I stocked it with bluegills, catfish, and suckers from the local river. To keep the fish from getting washed away during a storm, I built a "fish condo complex" using a bunch of submerged 8x8x16 cinder blocks. The wall is about 4 ft deep and I have a walkway over it. My creek is a work in progress.

I have about 200 fish living in the creek year round. I feed them far more food than I do my five fish tanks inside the house.

Below are a few pictures of how it looked when our house was being built and how it has progressed over the years.

wow, VFC, that is awesome! Now I need to find a house with a nice yard and a creek going through it. You did an awesome job and it looks great.

You may want to check the local laws n this, in my area you are not alowed to change a naturally occuring waterway. By far the simplest way of doing it would be to create a dam. Not so much digging. You will probably find that digging won't work, as sediment will probably just fill it back in.

Our township prohibits us from changing the entry or exit path of a creek through our property. Once inside our property, we can pretty much doing what we want with the creek.

I caught trout in creeks that were smaller than the one vfc posted pictures of. I think it would depend on what species of fish you want to include. Also, in Colorado it is illegal to transfer fish from one body of water to another. Not sure if it's the same where you live, but I would check on that first.

Well u cld make a damn like posted and if u did dig how wld the sediment fall back in?? rivers grow by removin sediment in areas? I dont get wht ur sayin
