Another option would be to build a pond next to the creek and divert a small portion of the flow through the pond. That has the advantage that you can screen the incoming and outgoing water and leave the creek more or less intact. Be aware though that heavy feeding can pollute the creek downstream causing excessive algal growth. Again only if legal.
