OK, I'll bite. I quit smoking after smoking 2 packs a day for 23 years. had to start something. Did some reading, and that was it!
I started off with a black shark my younger bro gave me due to it being too agressive for his tank, months latter is was getting a little too big and decided to take it to my LFS, got a new bigger tank and some African Mbuna.
Was walking through a swap meet when I walked past a pet shop and saw redcap orandas, and I was hooked.
My Ma always had a few tanks since I was a baby. When I was 4 I watched her take out a dead fish and toss it. She caught me a half hour later throwing all her live fish in the garbage. She then decided to start teaching me how to care for them. She mostly had angels and a few others. When I was ten I bought my first tank with my allowance and what BDay money. It was a 30 gal. 18 years later I still have that tank and it is running lol. As well as many others. I went from datnoids to plecos and am literally addicted to large Panaque. So is my older brother. He still keeps datnoids.
well before I was ten had the gold fish in the bowl. Had a aunt & uncle with a couple tanks that I was amazed of & watch them for hours. Then a couple from church had a basement full of metal frame tanks with mostly guppies & one 5 gal salt tank with a anemone in it. Was hooked more then 31 years ago. Got a 10 gal for my tenth birthday from Woolworths. Then at 12 got a 20, then a 55 then then picked up speed from there especially in cichlids, then started working in a pet store at 15, & Now for over 19 years I own two stores, hatchery of more then 500 tanks, 20,000 gallons plus a service company then I have 21 tanks at home.

i had some tanks when i was a kid.. my mom would let me have guppies and neon tetras and chinese algae eaters.. and told me i couldn't have angelfish because they are too mean.
i quickly lost interest.
then i met my ex hubby. he had a BIG pirahna in a 55 gallon tank. Jaws seriously needed a bigger tank so i bought him a 150 gallon tank. but Jaws didn't survive long enough to enjoy his new home. so we went to several LFS and looked at fish. he wanted a red tailed catfish and i fell in love with cichla. i got 3 little cichla ocellaris and he got his RTC. i was hooked... i got a bunch more cichla and some oscars and some tank deals got us a couple red devils that took a shine to each other and started spawning. and a few common plecos. then i got my angelfish and a silver aro.
i've had as many as 9 aquariums running at one time, now i'm down to 3.. my 210, 180 and my 60 gallon with the red jewels and synodontis cats. i'm about to set up an 800 gallon aquarium that i bought recently.
i quickly lost interest.
