How did you get started in the hobby?

my dad got me started, he had downsized from his 50 gal tank to a 15 gal after the old one broke and my mom vetoed another big tank. Thus, he set up a 15 gal and handed it to me, passing on the passion. It had a golden angelfish, a Siamese algae eater, a kuhlii loach and a single Gymnocorymbus ternetzi in there. I must have been 5 when this happened. I cannot remember when I eventually was in complete charge of the tank, my dad phased out his helping hand support slowly and wisely.

i won a free goldfish and bowl from a fair and started of from there. i now have four tanks. form a 25gal to a 60gallon

well I first started with a 5 gallon hex and we had three one male betta and two females and it wasnt really successful because we didnt know about fish that much. then the real ones started when I bought a 10 gallon setup from walmart and bought pacus an oscars. and they all eventually died..and then I started having interest in monster fish after my first arowana.
 
My mom had an old metal frame 5gal tank from when she was a kid.We set it up on the kitchen counter with some guppies and a newt when I was about 10.
 
Twas back in ye ole 80s, my cousin worked at a LFS an had a 70Gal. I bought a 20gal L he had for 5.00, an got numerous items at his discount. Which was great. Sadly however he soon lost that job after I bought a 55Gal setup. Since then its just been going bigger an better.
 
I live in a dorm and couldnt have a dog or snake so I started with some aquatic frogs and then my buddy sold me his old 20 gal and now my hobby just keeps on growing. I keep rearranging my dorm room to get more and more space for tanks.
 
back in 1999 got to see a friend's father fish room at a party . the room had 180/90/55/40t/55t/20L they contaned knifefish (clown & royal & african specie also kept oscar's various catfish tsn /marbled/pictis/rtc and an african lung fish and a very large sh in the 180gal .. bascially jumped in right to the hobby with a pair of oscar's and know trying to learn to make a total custom setup from filter to construction of the tank it self! compared to most here I fall in to the intermediate keeper catagory way beyond beginner... still have alot to learn though! :thumbsup: :woot: :headbang2
 
I always used to love keeping creatures and fantasized about keeping lizards, fish, dragons and beasts and stuff.....

My dad had a 55 gallon tank for a very long time, but we gave it away when we moved.
he kept a 15gallon for me though, incase I got started.

I didn't do anything for a few years and my friend (themunsta) got his tank setup with his 4 redbellies, and that really got me started.

weekly trips to the lfs ever since lol. Now I have a total of five tanks, and I also keep herps! l
